Job Description for Fitness Instructors at The Center:

To lead a high-quality fitness class that motivates, inspires, and educates our class members on how to safely execute a format of exercise. 

Job Expectations for Fitness

Instructors at The Center:

• Arrive 10 minutes before your class for set up, interact with class members, and to be available for questions.
• Start your class on time, lead an appropriate warm up, followed by main part of your class, and finishing with an appropriate cool down.
• Be sure to cue, give clear/concise directions for safety in your classes.
• Limit TMI in your classes. It’s not about you, it’s about your class members.
• Be sure to engage, connect, and provide the class members with an excellent experience in your class.
• Use appropriate music for your class. Be sure that the volume of the music is appropriate. Use the microphone for your class at an appropriate volume. 
• Wear appropriate clothing (use discretion and common sense).
• Important to end your class on time so that you can clear the room on time for the class following you.
• Be available for 10 minutes after end of class to talk with members (thanking them for coming and answering questions).
• Attend all scheduled (usually 3 times a year) instructor meetings.
• Provide current CPR training proof, CEU’s and recertification papers to keep your file current.
• Take continuing education so that you are educated and current on the fitness formats you teach.
• Maintain and share a positive attitude with class members, fellow instructors, and The Center members about all issues/topics that may arise.
• To be dedicated and committed to making your classes and the success of The Center a reality.
• Request days off by 21st (of previous month) for upcoming schedule.
• If the schedule is done and you need to have a day off, please contact instructors to find a sub. Notify Sallie and the front desk of the change in instructors for the class.
• Be available and open to an annual review with your supervisor.
• *The supervisor might record your class and then meet for a one on one review.

Instructor Pay:

• The Center encourages and would like instructors to be certified in their format of teaching.
• We establish a pay scale to reward instructors who do take the time and spend the money to get certified and stay certified.
• Pay scale for instructors: $13-14 an hour no certification no experience, $14-16 experienced or certified, and $16+ for certified and experienced.
• We know that it takes work to prepare for your classes so we pay a total of 20 minutes extra for each class that you teach, for example: 45min class at $14/hr = 105 minutes, so your pay is $15.17. 
• In order to keep your pay the same you need to maintain a certification. If you drop your certification your pay would go down to second tier.

• Free single membership at date of hire, couple’s membership free after three years of continuous employment, family membership free after five years of continuous employment
• You can request approval for continuing education (up to $150/yr) for class formats you lead or want to lead at The Center. Must get prior approval, provide proof of payment, proof of completion, and remain employed at The Center. Payments are paid in half increments in April and October. 
• 20% off services for yourself offered at The Center or clothing for yourself that is sold at The Center.
• Single free ticket to most Historic Holmes Theatre productions/shows.
